Who Needs a Diet?

Welcome to my attempt at figuring out how to live a healthy life, while not giving up things I truly love to do and eat!

Here we go!

Hi everyone, and welcome to my blog!

I'm excited to try this out, but I'm not 100% of what my long-term plan for the blog is or what I personally even want out of it yet. I have a few food blogs that I have begun reading over the past year or so, and have enjoyed finding new recipes, reading product reviews, and getting exercise tips. However, I've always felt that something was missing... perhaps a sense of realism? I always felt like I would never be able to uphold the quality of life these bloggers have, I mean some of them exercise EVERY DAY, and others can stop at only ONE BITE of a cookie for dessert. Sure, if it's one of those cookies that is as big as your head, I can see not finishing it (I still might). But, what if it's an oreo? Is one bite reasonable?

I don't think so. I believe that I am perfectly capable of living healthily while not following a strict doctrine of diet and exercise, and I am going to use this blog to prove it. I just hope that some people who read this feel the same way, and can not only be inspired, but relate to me and my attempt at having my cake and eating it, too.

So.... let's give this a try!

To start with, I'm Kat, a 24 year old graduate student in her last semester.

Right now, aside from this blog, I'm pretty boring. In May I will graduate with my Masters of Elementary Education, which I am very excited about! And, I only have two night classes this semester so I have a lot of flexibility in planning my time. That is the main reason why I chose to embark on this project now... I don't know when I'll have another wide-open six month period to try and get my health on track.

And this is Kyle, my partner in crime, who not only is supporting me in this project but will also have several delish recipes featured on here, too.

We'll have been together for 2 years in May :-). Kyle is also key in the project because like me, he is a poooooor graduate student. We have both taken it upon ourselves to make our own lunches and dinners as often every week as we can, and to only buy what we need each week from the grocery store. This week we did so well we only spent $120 for everything we needed for breakfast, lunches, and dinner.

Important Rules of the Blog:
  • I am NOT a certified nutritionist or a health expert of any kind; meaning anything I eat, say, or do on here can be tried by any of you at your own risk (that sounds really serious, but I just want to be clear!)
  • I will NOT be a calorie counter... while it works for some, I find it more upsetting and discouraging than anything
  • I will NOT follow a set exercise plan
  • I will NOT follow a set nutrition plan
But, I will:
  • I will allow myself off days from exercise, and do my best to not feel bad about it!
  • I will eat ENTIRE cookies
  • I will drink alcohol... I live an hour away from some great VA wineries... Kyle and I can't give that up! :-)
  • I will eat McDonalds at times
  • I will forget to blog sometimes,
  • and, I will forget to take pictures

Basically... I'm very new at this, and not very technologically advanced. So, bear with me!
